12 Christmas markets across Northern Ireland, perfect for getting in the festive mood
With just under a month to go until the big day, many of us are ready to get into the festive spirit.
And what better way to get in the mood than going to the Christmas market with family or friends?
Whether you’re there to buy a few gifts, grab some food and drink, or just for some winter dander, there are plenty of markets in Northern Ireland to visit this year.
We’ve put together a list of NI Christmas Markets – let us know which ones you’ll be visiting!
Belfast Christmas Market – November 20 – December 23
Northern Ireland’s most popular Christmas market has to be Belfast Town Hall.
Offering goodies and gifts from all over the world (as well as a few beer tents), visiting the Christmas market here has become a tradition for many over the years.
Ballymena Christmas Market
The market will be operational on Greenvale Street on several dates in December:
- From Thursday December 9 to Sunday December 12
- From Thursday December 16 to Sunday December 19
It will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Thursday to Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Carrickfergus Christmas Market
This year, the Carrickfergus Festive Market will take place at Market Place on the following dates:
- Friday December 3 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
- Saturday 4 December 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Craft fair at Carnfunnock Country Park
On Saturday December 4th, the #embRACE Christmas Craft Fair will take place at Carnfunnock Country Park in Co Antrim.
The market will take place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on this date.
Royal Hillsborough Christmas Market
Due to popular demand, the market will take place over two days, Friday December 10 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday December 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The market will be set up along The Dark Walk and Hillsborough Fort.
The Royal Hillsborough Christmas Market will provide more than 50 local producers and artisans with a platform to showcase their unique products and festive gifts.
Flowerfield Christmas Craft Market
The popular festive fair will take place at the Flowerfield Arts Center in Portstewart and will feature a unique range of handcrafted products made by local manufacturers from across the Causeway Coast and Glens area.
From Saturday November 20 to Thursday December 23, the annual Craft Market features a selection of quality handcrafted ceramics, glass, jewelry, textiles, food and more.
Each year, the market showcases the best of local produce and crafts, attracting festive shoppers looking for beautiful and unique items.
Christmas Craft Market in Castle Ward
In the stable yard of Castle Ward in Co Down, an abundance of designers and manufacturers will display their wares at the Christmas Craft Market.
The tearoom will also offer a selection of festive hot drinks to keep hands and tummy warm, as well as local and seasonal hot dishes.
The market will take place this year on the following dates:
- Friday December 3 – 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Saturday December 4 – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Sunday December 5 – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Fermanagh covered Christmas market
The Fermanagh Indoor Christmas Market runs from Thursday 25 November to Saturday 27 November with stalls set up by a number of local independent businesses.
Handicrafts and handmade items will be on offer from a variety of local businesses along with festive goodies.
Christmas Special Fresh from the Market
Market Fresh will hold its Christmas market at Project 24 in Bangor on Saturday December 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A very special visitor will be there to meet all the boys and girls, while there will be plenty of seasonal song and music, as well as an abundance of produce from local traders on the market stalls.
Christmas Special Comber Farmer’s Market
Meet at St Mary’s Parish Church in Comber on Thursday December 16 for a very special Christmas market.
It will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Markets of the walled city
The very popular Walled City Markets will make a return to Guildhall Square in Derry this Christmas.
You can walk through the markets on the following dates from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday 4 December
- Sunday 5 December
- Saturday 11 December
- Sunday 12 December
Omagh Winter Wonderland
The “Omagh Winter Wonderland” will start at Healy Park in the town of Co Tyrone from December 3rd and run through January 2nd.
The Christmas markets held during this event will include stalls filled with produce from local traders, as well as a beer tent and live music performances.
