Cotswold Country Park considered by Tripadvisor visitors a ‘scam’ after reopening

One of Gloucestershire’s most popular tourist destinations for families has reopened, but not everyone is happy.

Cotswold Country Park has received a lot of negative reviews on Tripadvisor since it reopened after it was forced to close due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

The park presents itself as the “ultimate party place for children and adults” and offers water sports activities on the lagoon, hiking trails, restaurants and a barbecue area.

However, recent Tripadvisor reviews have derided the “rude” staff and “horrible” food at the family-friendly destination, with many complaining that the parking fee was a “rip off”.

Gloucestershire Live has contacted Cotswolds Country Park for comment but has not received a response at the time of going to press.

A reviewer from a visit in April this year said: “A poor website meant we couldn’t reserve parking and we were refused entry after traveling for an hour, but we also DENIED our refund of £ 80 or our transfer to another day! On top of that I have never encountered such rude staff !!! Incredibly rude! Shrugging and mocking. AVOID !!! “

Another family had problems with the reservation system because they said the website was not “user friendly”.

The reviewer, KW84, visited their family this month, hoping to take their kids to Aquaventure, the park’s waterslide attraction.

They used their printed admission to enter on Monday, but when they returned three days later it was a different story as they were told their printed admission “was not enough”.

KW84 said: “We came on Monday and my printed admission was seen and we were sent straight to the parking lot. However today was a major issue for the gate attendants.

“We arrived half an hour before our time slot and left at 4:30 pm, so we did not use the facilities on site.

“He said the printed admission I had was not enough, even though it was Monday!

“At this point my kids were very upset as they thought they would miss the Aquaventure we paid £ 100 for.

“It is a real rip off to charge £ 12 per car when we only use the Aquaventure! “

They added, “The attendant was very condescending and rude.”

Another reviewer, 1957Ann, said they only used the park for dog walking, but would have to pay the £ 12 entrance fee.

They said: ‘Absolutely disgusting, we have been here a few times over the years to walk around the lake with our dog, arrived today to be told £ 12 to park the car we do not use any installation because we have no children.

“I will never come back, total rip-off, sorry for the families!”

Meanwhile, another family said the food in the park was “awful” and their hot dog was “burnt”.

The review said, “I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone and I won’t eat here again.”

They added that the customer service was “awful” and said, “When we told them about my burnt hot dog, they didn’t even apologize.”

However, not all customers had a bad time.

A more balanced review said the barbecue area was a “small space”. They said, “It’s a lovely place, but there are problems.

“We booked BBQ area 2 which says it’s for 20-40 people. Absolutely not. Even before social distancing! Two picnic tables and a barbecue (which is large) should clearly expand the space. barbecue to include some of the grass £ 30 for a tiny area.

“This beautiful place let us down in the day.

“I must add that the parking fees are acceptable however.”

Another reviewer gave the park five stars, calling the £ 12 entrance fee “good value” and said: “Everything we bought on site was good value for money.

“All facilities are kept in good condition, our daughter loved the play park.

“Even the toilets near the beach were new and clean with hot water soap and paper towels.

“You can freely bring whatever you want too, so a very good value for money day. Highly recommend.”
