Dubai’s best campsites revealed by #DubaiDestinations

The Hatta region is one of many popular places to set up tents and campfires this winter. The popular eco-adventure destination offers the landscapes of Hatta as well as several daytime activities and facilities at the Hatta Wadi Hub.

UAE outdoor explorers can choose to bring their own tents or caravans to camp alone or opt for a more luxurious camping experience, known as “glamping,” at Damani Lodges or Sedr Trailers. These accommodations are options for a mountain getaway, with barbecues, starry skies and a range of activities. Other glamping experiences in Hatta include Hatta Dome Park, which features 15 permanent domed tent structures designed with panoramic windows; and the Hatta Caravan Park which offers visitors the option of renting one of the static luxury caravans.

For people who prefer not to venture too far from the city, Al Qudra Lakes offers another unique desert camping experience. An hour’s drive from Dubai International Airport, the destination is one of the most developed campsites in the emirate. With the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve located right next to it, people can also enjoy the experience of being surrounded by greenery and wildlife. Campers can also take time to explore the heart-shaped Love and Flamingo Lakes or cycle the Al Qudra Bike Trail.

One of the newest additions to Al Qudra Lakes, Expo 2020 Lake is a must-visit destination for those looking for a camping adventure in the middle of the desert while surrounded by breathtaking views of the man-made wonder. The area also gives you the best sunset and sunrise views and has restrooms and facilities.

Another experience that will renew your connection with nature is at the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Home to Arabian oryx, gazelles, reptiles and birds, the reserve is set on a former camel farm and offers camel rides, barbecue meals and stunning views. Visitors to this reserve will need to book through special tour operators who provide everything from tents to traditional meals in the scenic and protected area. The tour operator will also teach you how to navigate the desert terrain safely in your own 4×4.

Dubai offers many other beautiful places to camp in the desert and explore the red sand dunes. For a more secluded location, adventurers can head to the Al Awir desert located about 40 minutes from the city or the Lahbab desert, about 50 minutes from the center. Lahbab Desert offers endless entertainment such as stargazing, sandboarding, dune bashing and quad biking.

Another great place to camp is the Al Ruwayaah desert, located close to the Dubai Outlet Mall, not too far from the city lights. For a half-city, half-desert vibe, the Dubai Half Desert is the perfect place to camp. An ideal site for first-timers and families, the area offers incredible photo opportunities with its half-desert roads partially covered in sand.

When planning your own camping trip, it’s best to make sure you’ve packed all your camping essentials and gear. Campers should also follow all safety precautions for a safe experience. The Dubai Municipality Public Health and Safety Department provides a number of safety guidelines for camping outdoors in tents.

Apart from the desert tour operators, there are also many companies in Dubai that set up comfortable facilities for families and everything you need for an unforgettable camping experience.
