Noosa mentee wins corporate awards

Business Mentoring Noosa’s mentee, Coolum-based Aussie Tiny Houses (ATH), received top prize in the Clean Technology category at the recent Sunshine Coast Business Awards.

A pioneer in the design and manufacture of tiny homes, ATH has quickly become the leader in the Australian market.

The vision of Brazilian entrepreneurs Thiago Perrone and Fabio Paulucci began operations in 2017 and the company has grown rapidly over the past three years, resulting in the relocation of four factories to larger premises. Today, Aussie Tiny Houses employs 35 people.

The houses have wheels and are easily moved. They are classed as caravans and as such are not subject to local planning regulations

Aussie Tiny Houses offer incredible versatility. They can be used during downsizing, for vacation homes, as granny flats, for AirBnB purposes or for emergency accommodation. In the case of the latter, ATH recently provided two houses to the Noosa-based organization You Tur’ to support homeless youth.

In 2019, Thiago and Fabio recognized that they would benefit from external expertise to help them accelerate the growth of their business.

Rather than employ expensive consultants, they approached Business Mentoring Noosa (BMN) – as Thiago puts it “for an annual $195 BMN subscription, we have unlimited access to some of the brightest business minds in the Sunshine Coast”.

Initial meetings focused on developing a new sales and marketing strategy that has resulted in 100% sales growth over two years and is expected to increase another 50% this year.

Additionally, BMN provided assistance and advice on all financial aspects of the business – cost of products, cost control, profit margins and cash flow.

“I was particularly impressed with the flexibility shown by the mentors – sometimes they acted as a great sounding board for our ideas while in other areas they provided much-needed technical guidance,” said Fabio .

With the manufacturing side of the business becoming a priority, BMN recently brought in a mentor with expertise in production and project management.

Aussie Tiny Homes is now in its third year of mentorship and is on a strong upward growth trajectory.

Thiago believes that “the role of mentoring continues to adapt to meet our changing business needs – without a doubt, BMN has been a catalyst in helping us become a very successful and profitable business. What better value can you get for $195 a year?”.

BMN Chairman David Bell said: “Whether you’re a small family business facing challenges or a business owner who needs someone to talk to, or need advice on areas of outside your comfort zone, Business Mentoring Noosa can help you”.
