Rockwood Park Ranked # 2 in the State for Economics Courses – Welcome to the City of Fort Worth

Fort Worth’s Rockwood Park Golf Course was ranked second in the state by a Dallas Morning News panel that selected the 25 best budget golf courses in Texas.
the Morning news“ 91 Texas golf panel members received a 288-course ballot and were asked to rate them on a 10-point scale. Committee members are golf professionals, golf course architects, superintendents, those involved in the golf course industry and amateurs. Criteria used include versatility, shot, design, beauty, maintenance, and overall memorization.
Rockwood Park also ranked No. 24 statewide in public courses, edging out Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Stonebriar in Frisco and Texas Star in Euless.
In addition, Rockwood Park ranked 84th for all courses in the state, including country clubs. Other local courts which made the ranking: Colonial, n ° 5; Shady Oaks, # 14; Mira Vista, No. 59; and River Crest, No. 93
“Rockwood Park Golf Course has been a community favorite since it opened in 1938, and recent improvements make it without doubt one of the best municipal golf facilities in North Texas,” said the Mayor Betsy Price.
The original Rockwood Park golf course was designed by golf course architect John Bredemus, with later improvements by golf course architect Ralph Plummer. As of November 2015, the course underwent a $ 5.1 million renovation led by the design team of John Colligan and his partner Trey Kemp. The renovation included a new routing plan with new greens, tees, fairways, bunkering system, drainage and cart tracks. The course was lengthened to reach 7,053 yards.
This spring, a new clubhouse opened in Rockwood Park. The $ 7.7 million clubhouse features an upper level with a pro shop, grill, dining area, and function room. The lower level houses convenient storage and repairs for the trolleys.
“The City of Fort Worth’s commitment to providing a first-class golf experience has led to the continuous improvement of Rockwood Park and its current status as one of the best public courses in the state,” said Dave Lewis, Deputy Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. “Our maintenance staff were able to keep the course to a very high standard, and the staff at our pro shop provide a great experience.
“The players love the high quality, consistent layout and greens here,” said Lewis. “Add in amazing views of the city and a new clubhouse, you can see why Rockwood Park was named one of the best public courses in the state.”
