The UK’s first wellness festival for queer women coming to Wales

Guests will camp in Pembroke National Park and can participate in wild swim sessions in the nearby Cleddau River.

The UK’s first-ever wellness festival for queer, questioning and curious women, and those who are non-binary, is set to take place in Wales this summer on Pride’s 50th anniversary.

Out & Wild promises three days and nights with dozens of wellness activities – such as sports, spoken word, poetry, wild swim comedy and music – in a safe and supportive space .

The festival, which runs from June 10-13 in Pembrokeshire, offers camping, glamping and space for caravans while providing a platform for queer and non-binary female talent who are often underrepresented in British festivals.

Polly Shute, co-founder of Out and About LGBTQ, which will host the festival, explained how Out & Wild was designed to be an inclusive, safe and supportive space to explore new activities and experiences while embracing the beautiful natural surroundings of the Welsh countryside.

“The response we’ve had so far has been amazing,” she said. “From the quality of sponsors and partners on board, to the range of experiences underway and the talent that will be performing – not to mention the support we have received from the Welsh Government, who have provided us with a three-year grant as part of of its commitment to being the most LGBTQ-friendly country in Europe.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer three days filled with incredible experiences, all designed by and for queer, questioning, curious women and those who are non-binary.”

Tickets are on sale now. Although early bird tickets are officially sold out, organizers have given PinkNews readers a chance to get their hands on a discounted ticket if you book here.

What to do at the Out & Wild festival?

Located in the heart of the Pembrokeshire National Park overlooking the River Cleddau, the festival will make the most of its stunning surroundings with guided hikes and runs. And if you’re in the mood for a refreshing swim, Out & Wild revelers will be introduced to wild swimming, one of the hottest trends right now, with guided swims, water safety sessions and even a chance to swimming by candlelight in the river at night. Again, there are plenty of outdoor hot tubs to enjoy the view while taking a relaxing dip.

As you would expect from a wellness festival, there will be plenty of time to disconnect and relax with massages, ice baths, meditation and yoga on offer, as well as breathing and tai chi.

While those who prefer their relaxation a little more active can take part in dance lessons and Out & Wild workouts to really get those endorphins pumping.

Let’s face it, the stereotype of gay women working out exists for a reason — and it’s not just Megan Rapinoe’s muscles. And in that regard, Out & Wild really knows its audience. Organized in partnership with Pride Sports, Sport England’s expert LGBT+ partner, there will be tryouts for all kinds of sports to try out across the UK, from five-a-side football to hockey, and everything in between.

If you get your kicks and stimulation from more mental and cerebral activities than physical, Out & Wld offers a range of talks and workshops covering everything from queer literature and sustainability to crafts and even foraging – but don’t worry if you’re having trouble identifying which mushrooms are edible and which are poisonous. The festival also promises a wide selection of dishes to satisfy all taste buds.

Issy and Rachael, who run LGBT Fit, have pledged to curate the festival’s wellness zone – cutting short their own honeymoon to provide the best possible experience for festival-goers.

“We were really excited to be part of the Out & Wild team,” they explained, “and we’ll be delivering sessions that appeal to all skill levels.

“It’s a great opportunity to try new wellness experiences in a fun, safe and supportive environment.”

There will really be something for everyone, basically.

Who is efficient?

Although the full line-up has yet to be announced, Out & Wild have already confirmed singer-songwriter Marieke, whose acoustic and folk tunes have won a legion of fans across Wales, and singer retro-pop and country Kaysha Louvain.

And if you like your festivals with a secondary order of eco-activism, you can stomp on cult favorites Fossilheads, who will present their acclaimed cabaret about the climate crisis, which promises to put the “ooh!” return to the “existential destiny”. And for those who have packed their dancing shoes away in their camping gear, there will be a silent disco every evening under the stars in the former estate of Lawrenny Castle.
