These towns in San Antonio will be open and closed for Christmas and New Years
SAN ANTONIO – While the mild weather may suggest otherwise, Christmas and New Years Eve are fast approaching.
With that in mind, there are a few key closures you should be aware of as most offices in the city will be closing for the holidays.
Public safety and emergency services will remain operational, but here are the plans for other services in the city:
The police will be on duty.
Firefighters and EMS will be on duty.
The 3-1-1 call center will be operational from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 24. 2.
The COVID hotline will be open December 24-31 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but closed on weekends.
The SAPD detention center and the district court will remain open.
Recycling, recycling of organics and garbage will be collected as follows:
The regular collection on Saturday December 25 will take place one day earlier, Friday December 24.
The regular collection on Saturday January 1 will be done one day earlier, Friday December 31.
Bitters and Nelson Gardens Brush Recycling will be open December 27-31.
Bulky waste collection centers and household hazardous waste sites (Frio City, Rigsby and Culebra roads) will be open from December 28 to 31.
Solid Waste Customer Service will operate from 7:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
The dead animal collection teams will be on duty from December 26 to 31
Animal protection officers will be on duty.
The Animal Care Hall and Adoption Center will be open: noon to 4 p.m. on December 24 and 31; and regular hours on Dec. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Dec. 27, 28, 29 and 30 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Most library branches open December 26-30 (Central Library, Forest Hills Branch, and McCreless Branch Library hours of operation differ due to ongoing projects)
The Alamodome box office will be open from December 27 to 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on December 29 from 3 p.m. for the sale of tickets to the Valero Alamo Bowl
Visitors to the city center will enjoy a metered vacation from December 24-26. For city parking garages, the holiday only includes December 25.
La Villita and the market square will be open from December 26 to 31.
The Palace of the Spanish Governor will be open on December 26, 28, 29 and 30.
The city’s parks and trails will be open.
WIC in Pecan Valley will be open on December 29 to provide service to customers requiring benefits from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Homeless Connections hotline (210-207-1799) will be open December 27 (limited staff), 28, 29 and 30. Closed December 31.

SAFD administrative offices.
3-1-1 will be closed on December 25 and January 1 except for emergency problems related to animals and traffic malfunctions from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. by pressing option 1 to reach a representative customer service.
The Animal Care Hall and Adoption Center will be closed on December 25 and January 1.
All Metro Health clinics.
Metro’s Healthy Foods and Environment Division.
The Alamodome vaccination clinic will be closed on December 24, 29 and 31.
All comprehensive senior / adult centers and senior nutrition sites.
The Willie Velasquez and Claude Black community centers are closed. The Frank Garrett Center will be closed except for the parks and recreation programming for its winter vacation camp from December 27 to 30.
Childcare administrative offices.
Head Start administrative offices and school district sites.
The Pre-K 4 SA school is closed from December 17 to Jan. 1.
The CEO and the head office of Pre-K 4 SA are closed from December 20 to Jan. 1
Neighborhood and housing services.
Collection of sidewalk brushes.
Bitters and Nelson Gardens Brush Recycling closed on December 24, 25 and January 1.
Bulky waste collection centers and household hazardous waste sites (Frio City Rd., Rigsby and Culebra) will be closed from December 24 to 25 and January 1.

The administrative offices of the SWMD are closed from December 24 to January 1.
Darner’s head office and park reservations office are closed from December 24 to January 1 (online reservations for sports fields and lodges must be made 24 hours in advance).
San Antonio City Community Centers, Adult & Seniors Centers, McFarlin Tennis Center, San Antonio Natatorium, and Barrera Community Fitness Center are closed December 24-27 and December 31-December 1. January (designated community centers will offer camps December 20 – January 10 depending on school district calendars).
Fitness classes in the park are not offered on December 24, 25, 31, and January 1.
Municipal clerk’s office, passports, civil registers and municipal archives and records.
The Municipal Court will be closed on December 24. 3.
Alamodome Box Office closed December 24-26, December 30-31, and January 1-2.

The central library and all side libraries will be closed on December 24, 25, 31 and January 1.
The Carver Community Cultural Center, 226 N. Hackberry will be closed from December 24 to January 24. 1.

La Villita will be closed on December 25 and January 1 and will close early at 2 p.m. on December 24 and 31.
The market square will be closed on December 25 and January 1.
The Centro de Artes gallery is closed until further notice.
The Culture Commons gallery in Plaza de Armas is closed until further notice.
The Spanish Governor’s Palace will be closed on December 24, 25, 27, 31 and January 1.
