Officers from the Melbourne Police Department, along with volunteers from businesses across the city, instructed the children in knotting, wildlife conservation, tackle box equipment and casting.

“We at the Melbourne Police Department were fortunate to have many different agencies and businesses involved in this great event,” MPD officials said.

“Melbourne Parks and Recreation, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Fish Florida and Marine Resource Council are just a few of the many organizations involved in making this event a memorable one for the children of the community. “

The purpose of the Fishing Camp is to bring the community together to promote outdoor recreation, teach children how to fish safely, and educate children about the unique ecosystem of the Indian River.
